Only 42 of the 50 buses that were procured from the US$50 million World Bank-funded IRUMP Project are operating presently.
One of the buses was seriously damaged before the shipment from India and needs to be replaced by the Manufacturers so 49 buses were received in Sierra Leone in November 2023.
The other 7 buses had damaged windscreen and mirrors while on the ship and are being parked for maintenance according to Hindolo Shiaka, Director of the Transport Infrastructure and Development Unit of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation.
He however assured that the one bus had already been shipped from India with the windscreen for the other buses.
