Freetown – Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Sports, Lawrence Kai Mbayo, has issued a public apology to Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh for a previous allegation accusing the Vice President of supporting an individual involved in the illegal purchase of a diamond.
In a video circulated on social media over the weekend, Mbayo called on Dr. Jalloh to forgive him, emphasizing the need to prioritize peace and unity within the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
The Vice President’s office has yet to release an official response to the apology.
The controversy stems from earlier claims by Mbayo that the Vice President supported Lebanese businessman Jihad Basma, who he accused of unlawfully purchasing a diamond that Mbayo insists was his property.
Following his allegations, Mbayo was summoned to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to explain why he continued to comment on the matter, which has already been brought before the courts.
The incident has drawn significant public attention, with many awaiting further developments, including a possible statement from the Vice President or his office.
