Freetown, August 28, 2026 – Vice President of Sierra Leone and Chairman of the Police Council, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, chaired a high-level meeting of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Executive Management Board (EMB).
The session brought together senior police officers to review governance, national security, institutional reforms and operational challenges facing the Force.
According to the Vice President, the discussions focused on key governance, security and operational issues. Senior officers from across the country provided firsthand updates on developments and ongoing reform efforts in their areas of responsibility.
“It is always refreshing to hear firsthand from senior officers across the country on police reform,” Dr. Jalloh stated.
The engagement offered police leadership an opportunity to assess progress within the institution and exchange views on measures to strengthen professionalism, accountability and effective policing nationwide.
The meeting forms part of broader efforts to transform the Sierra Leone Police from a traditional “Force” into a people-centred “Service.”
This transition, supported by the Government and partners including the UNDP, emphasises community-oriented policing, improved professionalism, stronger partnerships and a shift in internal culture. A Strategic Development Plan covering 2025–2029 guides the reforms, which include reviews of the Police Act, enhanced training, infrastructure upgrades and greater community engagement.
Dr. Jalloh, who has previously led nationwide stakeholder consultations on police reform and commissioned new police facilities, continues to play a central oversight role as Chairman of the Police Council. Recent activities by the EMB and senior leadership have also stressed discipline, integrity and service delivery as core priorities.
The high-level meeting underscores the Government’s commitment to strengthening national security institutions amid ongoing institutional modernisation.
