The Judiciary has officially concluded the 2025 Criminal Session, reporting a total of 1,659 inmates currently held across correctional facilities nationwide.
According to figures released, 1,561 of the inmates are male while 98 are female.
The session was presided over by Court of Appeal Judge, Hon. Justice Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens, who oversaw proceedings during the judicial calendar.
The closure marks the end of the Criminal Session, which is part of the Judiciary’s mandate to ensure timely dispensation of justice in Sierra Leone.
Judicial officials emphasized the importance of the Criminal Sessions in addressing backlog cases, particularly those involving serious offenses.
They further noted that the sessions contribute significantly to maintaining law and order and ensuring access to justice for all citizens.
The next Criminal Session is scheduled to commence on September 16, 2025, as the Judiciary continues its efforts to strengthen the justice delivery system.
