FREETOWN, Sierra Leone – In a significant development, High Court Judge Adrian Fisher has announced a revised adjournment date for the high-profile corruption trial involving the leader of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, All People’s Congress (APC), Samura Kamara, and five co-accused individuals.
Originally scheduled for October 6, 2023, the trial will now reconvene on Friday, October 27, 2023.
Justice Fisher cited pressing court commitments as the reason for the delay.
In an official notice, Justice Fisher emphasized that the trial would proceed on a daily basis, including Saturdays if necessary, until its completion. He made it clear that the court would only entertain further adjournments in exceptional circumstances.
Samura Kamara, along with the five co-accused individuals, faces allegations of corruption related to the mismanagement of funds designated for the renovation of Sierra Leone’s Chancery Building in New York. Among the charges against Kamara are misleading the principal and misappropriation of public funds. Kamara vehemently denies these allegations, describing them as a smear campaign against his reputation.
Notably, all the accused individuals have denied the charges, except for U.S. citizen Jules Sanders Davis, who has yet to appear in court.
The trial has drawn significant attention both nationally and internationally, and observers are closely following its proceedings.
