John Keister, the head coach of Bo Rangers Football Club and former manager of Sierra Leone’s national team, was involved in a serious car accident last Tuesday while traveling to Bo.
The incident occurred near Limba Corner, shortly after Mile 38, around 8:30 a.m. Despite the severity of the crash, Keister and his driver sustained no major injuries. Both were transported to a hospital for precautionary medical evaluations.
Bo Rangers’ chairman, Babadi Kamara, promptly arrived at the scene to offer assistance.
Keister is currently recovering at home with his family, still shaken by the experience but in stable condition.
Born on November 11, 1970, in Manchester, England, John Keister is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. His playing career included stints with English clubs such as Walsall, Chester City, Shrewsbury Town, and Margate. Internationally, he represented Sierra Leone, earning 16 caps between 1997 and 2003.
Transitioning into coaching, Keister managed FC Johansen before taking the helm of the Sierra Leone national team in 2017.
Under his leadership, the Leone Stars qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021, marking their first appearance in the tournament in 25 years .
After concluding his tenure with the national team in 2023, Keister was appointed head coach of Bo Rangers FC. In his inaugural season, he guided the team to a domestic double, securing both the Sierra Leone Premier League title and the FA Cup.
Keister is widely respected in Sierra Leonean football circles for his tactical acumen and commitment to the sport’s development in the country.
