The Institute for Legal Research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ) has announced plans to provide free legal advice to women suffering from domestic violence.
This initiative, aimed at offering confidential support and a path to safety, was revealed in a statement signed by ILRAJ’s founder, Mrs. Basita Michael.
“Every day, many of our sisters endure the silent agony of domestic abuse while outwardly maintaining a facade of bravery,” said Mrs. Michael. “At ILRAJ, we want to assure you that you are not alone in this struggle.”
Highlighting the courageous actions of individuals like Hawanatu Konneh and Dr. Isata Mahoi, who both played crucial roles in bringing attention to and providing safety for a recent victim, Monica Galiwa, Mrs. Michael emphasized the importance of community support in combating domestic violence.
“Thanks to the decisive actions of these compassionate women, Monica and her children are now safe,” she added. “You are never as helpless or alone as you might feel.”
In her statement, Mrs. Michael urged those experiencing domestic abuse to seek help immediately.
“Your life is precious, and help is available. Starting today, don’t hesitate to seek assistance. At ILRAJ, our doors are always open for legal advice and support.”
The organization is also calling on the community to be vigilant and proactive in supporting those who may be in danger.
“As a mother, sister, friend, or concerned citizen, you play a crucial role in combatting domestic violence,” Mrs. Michael stated.
ILRAJ will be offering these services from its office at 12 Pademba Road, Freetown, and guarantees confidentiality, privacy, and safety for all clients. The organization can be reached at 078000001 or via email at ilraj@itraj.org.
