FREETOWN — The Government of Sierra Leone, through the National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA), has approved an increase in fuel prices for January 2026, with petrol and diesel now selling at NLe 28.50 per litre, up from NLe 25.
In a statement released in Freetown, the NPRA said the revised petroleum pricing structure applies to all large-scale fuel uplifters and takes immediate effect. Under the new arrangement, bulk fuel transactions will continue to be settled in United States Dollars (USD).
The approved pump prices are:
* Petrol: NLe 28.50 per litre
* Diesel: NLe 28.50 per litre
* Kerosene: NLe 28.76 per litre
* Fuel Oil: NLe 25.98 per litre
According to the Authority, the prices were determined using a full cost recovery model that factors in international Platts prices for the Mediterranean market, freight and insurance costs, import duties, port and storage fees, as well as statutory taxes and levies.
The pricing calculations were based on an exchange rate of NLe 23.78 to one US Dollar.
The NPRA reaffirmed that the government’s policy requiring bulk petroleum products to be purchased in USD remains unchanged.
