Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar and is widely observed in Sierra Leone, where Muslims make up a significant part of the population. The festival marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer and reflection for Muslims around the world.
In Sierra Leone, Eid celebrations are typically marked by special prayers at mosques and open grounds, family gatherings, and acts of charity.
The declaration of a public holiday allows Muslims and other Sierra Leoneans to participate fully in the national observance.
The government’s notice confirms that the holiday will be observed nationwide on Friday.
