The Central One Football Association (COFA) has disclosed that four communities have been banned from partaking in its 2nd edition of the President Bio Trophy for misconduct.
The competition will commence today, Sunday 20 August 2023, at the Parade Field in Freetown.
Speaking in a press conference at the Parade Grounds on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, the Chairman of COFA Philison Clin-Cole said that this season’s Inter-Area Communities League is going to be different than Last year and they are going to take action on four popular communities four misconduct.
He said the four communities – Fullah Tong Community, Duff Cut Community, Mountain City, and Kabala Tong Community have been banned from this year’s league.
The COFA Chairman disclosed that the Chief Executive Officer of Gento Group of Companies Mohamed Gento Kamara has Pledged Le 100M Cash Prize for the first three positions and for the first time they will give the third place prize.
Philipson Cline-Cole, explain to the press the exciting development that the Champion, will receive (NLe 50,000), the runner-up Le 30,000,000, and the third-place (NLe 20,000).
He added that as part of this year’s package, Gento will present jerseys to the 40 participating communities with the company’s logo emphasizing that this year’s theme is ‘Non-Violence and Say No to Drugs’.
Chairman Cole further stated that the tournament will see Kroo Town Road Rangers FC and Bambra Tong kick-start the tournament Sunday 20th.
When asked about security, poor referees officiating and players’ double registration, Mr. Cole responded that there was a meeting with these various sectors in which there is an agreement on which adequate security will be available during matches, the referees also committed to better service and a strong warning from the different communities that any player who signed for two communities will be banned.
