August 15, 2024 —The National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) has informed the public of a tragic incident involving a human-wildlife conflict that occurred within the Outamba Kilimi National Park, located in the Upper Tambaka Chiefdom of Karene District.
Mohamed Kamara, a resident of Yembere village (Duguta section), was attacked by an elephant.
The NPAA expressed deep concern over the situation, stating, “We stand in solidarity with the victim and his family during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with them as we monitor Mr. Kamara’s condition.”
The victim is currently receiving treatment at Kamakwie Government Hospital.
The Authority has begun a preliminary investigation into the incident.
“We are working closely with Chiefdom stakeholders to understand the circumstances that led to this unfortunate event,” the NPAA representative added.
The NPAA has also urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation. “We encourage all residents and partners to refrain from sharing false information. We will continue to provide updates as we learn more,” the statement concluded.
