In an official communication addressed to His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the President of the Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, conveyed the positive outcome of the high-level ECOWAS delegation’s mission to Freetown on December 23.
Quoting the letter, President Touray expressed satisfaction in announcing that the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has extended an offer to host Former President Ernest Bai Koroma on a temporary basis in Abuja. President Koroma has reportedly accepted this offer.
Pending President Bio’s approval, the former President is scheduled to depart from Freetown on Thursday, January 4, 2024. The journey will include his office manager and personal assistant.
The letter further outlined key agreements reached during the mission, seeking confirmation from President Bio:
1. Discontinuation of all legal and administrative procedures against Former President Koroma by the Government of Sierra Leone.
2. Continued disbursement of benefits to the Former President.
3. Assurance of security for his residences across various locations in Sierra Leone.
4. Consideration of refunding medical and travel expenses incurred by the Former President.
President Touray concluded the letter expressing anticipation of a favorable response from President Bio while assuring the highest consideration.
