In a significant development, the Sierra Leone Court of Appeal has issued bench warrants for Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, the former leader of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), and his surety, Isha Baby Mansaray of No. 7 Tucker Drive, Majay Town.
This action follows their failure to appear for a scheduled hearing on February 20, 2025, concerning Mansaray’s appeal against his 2021 conviction for the sexual penetration of a minor.
Representing the State, A.J.M. Bockarie Esq. addressed the court during the proceedings. In light of the absence of both the appellant and his surety, the court not only issued the bench warrants but also rescheduled the hearing for Thursday, February 27, 2025.
This case has garnered substantial public attention, especially given Mansaray’s political prominence and the serious nature of the charges.
Mansaray was convicted of sexually penetrating a minor and sentenced to 15 years in prison. However, he was later granted compassionate release on medical grounds. After his release, he traveled to the United States, where he has been actively criticizing the government on social media.
With his court date set, many are wondering whether he will return to Sierra Leone for the trial. His absence could raise legal questions about how the case will proceed.
The court’s decisive response underscores the legal system’s commitment to upholding judicial processes and ensuring accountability.
