Freetown, Sierra Leone – July 24, 2025 – A Chinese national, Liv Jin Jie, has appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown to answer to charges of fraudulent conversion involving over $136,000 in a failed equipment transaction.
According to court documents, Liv Jin Jie allegedly converted USD 136,600 (approximately Le3,141,800) that was entrusted to him by a Sierra Leonean businessman, Mohamed Chernor Koroma.
The funds were reportedly meant for the purchase of a rig drilling machine and a stone crusher machine—equipment that was never delivered.
The accused faces one count of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20(1)(4)(b) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The alleged offense took place in Freetown between October 1 and 31, 2024.
During Tuesday’s court session, the charge was interpreted to the accused, but no plea was taken. Prosecuting officer Inspector Kadie Taylor requested an adjournment, noting that prosecution witnesses were not available.
Magistrate Jah ordered that the accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road and adjourned the matter to Friday, July 26, 2025, for further hearing.
