The second batch of participants in the Budapest–Bamako–Freetown Rally has successfully arrived in Sierra Leone, continuing the country’s role as host of the world’s largest amateur rally.
The convoy, made up of hundreds of international adventurers travelling in vehicles and motorbikes, entered the country through the Gbalamuya Border Crossing before proceeding to Bureh Beach, where participants made an overnight stop.
At Bureh Beach, rally teams were welcomed with a lively cultural evening organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the National Tourist Board and other partners. The event featured live band performances, traditional cultural displays, music, and beachside entertainment, giving visitors an opportunity to experience Sierra Leone’s hospitality and vibrant tourism offerings.
After the overnight activities, the convoy departed Bureh Beach under escort from the Sierra Leone Police and other security personnel, heading toward the rally’s finishing point at Gigibonta Car Park. Large crowds and officials gathered at the venue to welcome participants as they completed their long intercontinental journey across Europe and Africa before arriving in Freetown.
Speaking at the finish line, the Director of Tourism Travel and Exchange Program, Mohamed Jalloh, described the rally as an important opportunity to strengthen global connections and promote Sierra Leone internationally.
He said the Budapest–Bamako–Freetown Rally goes beyond motorsport, serving as a cultural platform that fosters friendship among nations while showcasing Sierra Leone as a welcoming and exciting tourism destination.
The rally continues to boost Sierra Leone’s international visibility, attracting visitors and stimulating economic activity in communities along the route. Officials say the event also provides opportunities for cultural exchange and partnerships, further positioning the country as an emerging destination for adventure tourism and global events.
