Sierra Leone’s Premier League Champions Bo Rangers have been held at home against Ivorian Side San Pedro in the first leg of CAF Champions League Qualifiers preliminary round.
The match held at the Southern Arena in Bo City ended in a 1-1 draw.
Mohamed Lamin puts the host in front in the 46” minutes with a brilliant goal after being set up star striker Musa Tombo. Bo Rangers however could not held on to the lead the 90 minutes as Dosso Issouf strike back for the visitors in the 73” minutes of play after a sloppy play by the host’s defence.
Rangers will now go back to the drawing board and seek to earn a qualification in the return leg, which is slated to take place next weekend in Ivory Coast.
Guided by former Leone Stars coach, John Keister, Bo Rangers are determined to maintain their winning momentum and progress to the group stages of Africa’s premier inter-club competition.
Should they triumph over San Pedro, they will face the winner of the Al Hilal (Sudan) versus Libya 2 matchup in the second round, set for September.
Last season, Bo Rangers were eliminated in the second round by Algeria’s CR Belouizdad, with a 6-2 aggregate score.
The CAF Interclub competitions are steadily gaining prominence in African football, attracting larger global TV audiences due to the rising quality of the matches. Last season, Al Ahly SC extended their record with a 12th TotalEnergies CAF Champions League title.
