Freetown, 24 April 2025 – As Sierra Leone prepares to commemorate its 64th Independence Anniversary, the Office of the President is calling on all citizens to observe the occasion through nationwide prayers and religious services.
The theme for this year’s anniversary, “Deepening National Consciousness and National Cohesion in a Troubled World,” emphasizes unity, reflection, and collective gratitude amid global and national challenges.
Special Muslim prayers are scheduled for Friday, 25th April 2025, in mosques across the country. Christian communities will follow with church services on Sunday, 27th April 2025. Government officials, including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and Heads of Departments and Agencies, have been directed to participate in these religious observances at their local places of worship.
In a statement from State House, the President’s Office highlighted the importance of these spiritual gatherings, describing them as a powerful symbol of unity and a reaffirmation of Sierra Leone’s shared values and aspirations.
President Julius Maada Bio is expected to deliver his annual Independence Day address to the nation on Sunday, 27th April, at 7:00 a.m., with broadcasts scheduled throughout the day.
Citizens are encouraged to participate fully in these moments of national reflection, honoring the country’s journey since independence and reinforcing the collective commitment to peace, progress, and national cohesion.
