Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has announced two new appointments aimed at strengthening governance in Sierra Leone’s environmental conservation and water management sectors.
In a public notice issued from State House on December 22, 2025, the President named Mr. Sheikh Ahmed Tunis as Executive Director of the National Protected Area Authority (NPAA).
The NPAA is responsible for managing and expanding the country’s protected areas, including national parks and conservation zones, in line with Sierra Leone’s commitments to biodiversity and sustainable development.
Additionally, Ms. Lucretia Marian Shereef has been appointed as a Board Member of the Guma Valley Water Company, the primary utility tasked with supplying safe and affordable potable water to residents of Greater Freetown.
The appointments are subject to parliamentary approval where applicable, as stated in the official notice signed by Barba B. Fortune, Secretary to the President.
These moves come as part of ongoing efforts by the Bio administration to bolster institutional capacity in critical public services. The Guma Valley Water Company, established in 1961 and governed under the 2017 Act, relies heavily on the Guma Dam for Freetown’s water supply, while the NPAA plays a vital role in climate adaptation and protected area management.
