The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq., hosted a consultative meeting with representatives of the mian opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC), and the National Moral Guarantors of the Agreement for National Unity to assess progress in implementing the electoral reform recommendations of the Tripartite Committee.
The meeting formed part of ongoing national efforts to promote democratic governance, strengthen electoral integrity, and consolidate peace through sustained dialogue and consensus-building.
During the discussions, participants reviewed reforms that have already been implemented, examined the status of those currently underway, and agreed on a clear roadmap to accelerate the implementation of the remaining recommendations within the agreed timeline.
Attorney General Alpha Sesay reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to implementing the Tripartite Committee recommendations, emphasizing that meaningful governance and electoral reforms remain central to strengthening Sierra Leone’s democratic institutions and safeguarding national unity.
The engagement also served as a follow-up to the most recent meeting with the International Moral Guarantors, providing stakeholders with an opportunity to review progress on agreed commitments and implementation timelines as the country works towards the December target.
The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion, acting within its mandate to promote peace, dialogue, and national cohesion, continues to facilitate engagements among key institutions and political stakeholders to monitor progress, encourage collaboration, and support the effective implementation of the Tripartite Recommendations.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to fostering constructive dialogue, strengthening trust among stakeholders, and supporting the successful implementation of the recommendations in the interest of lasting peace, democratic stability, and national cohesion in Sierra Leone.
Speaking after the meeting, the APC legal representatives, Hon. Alpha Abdullai Osman Timbo and Boniface Esq., expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the legislative reforms. They commended Attorney General Alpha Sesay for his steadfast commitment, transparency, and leadership throughout the implementation process.
The meeting underscored the shared resolve of the Government, political actors, and peacebuilding institutions to sustain cooperation and uphold the principles of dialogue, consensus, and the national interest as Sierra Leone advances its democratic reform agenda.
