Port Loko District, Sierra Leone — The Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, on Friday, January 23, 2025, joined residents of Bakehloko Chiefdom in Port Loko District for the home-calling ceremony of the newly installed Paramount Chief, PC Adikaili Mellah (OPAPA) III, describing the event as a milestone for unity, peace, and renewed development aspirations.
Speaking to community members, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders, the Vice President commended the people of Bakehloko and the wider Port Loko District for their peaceful conduct and active participation throughout the chieftaincy process.
He noted that the successful installation reflected the district’s commitment to stability and democratic traditional governance.
Dr. Jalloh said the emergence of a young and forward-looking Paramount Chief provides a fresh opportunity to strengthen grassroots leadership and fast-track development initiatives within the chiefdom.
He also highlighted ongoing government investments in the district, including the construction of new public offices, a girls’ school, health facilities, and other social infrastructure projects that were previously unavailable in the area.
According to the Vice President, additional development interventions are expected to be rolled out, as government remains committed to improving livelihoods and expanding access to social services for rural communities.
Emphasizing the role of traditional leadership in national development, Dr. Jalloh urged chiefs to serve the interests of their people and remain focused on community development rather than partisan politics.
He pledged the government’s support to work closely with Paramount Chief Mellah, local authorities, and development partners to ensure inclusive and sustainable development in Bakehloko Chiefdom.
The ceremony concluded with renewed calls for unity and cooperation, as the Vice President praised Port Loko District for maintaining peace during the chieftaincy elections.
He congratulated the new Paramount Chief and encouraged all stakeholders to work together to promote peace, progress, and long-term development in the chiefdom.
