The Sierra Leone national football team, Leone Stars, has intensified preparations ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Guinea-Bissau, scheduled for Thursday, March 20, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia.
Under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Mohamed Kallon, the team conducted an intense and productive training session this morning.
Kallon, a former international football legend and one of Sierra Leone’s most decorated players, expressed great satisfaction with the team’s progress, highlighting the determination and focus of the players in camp.
The squad, which arrived in Monrovia on March 16, currently comprises 17 home-based players. They are set to be bolstered by the arrival of eight foreign-based players, including highly-rated France-based defensive talent Juma Bah, who is expected to join the camp tomorrow evening.
Veteran Major League Soccer (MLS) striker Kei Kamara, who has 40 international caps and seven goals, has also joined the squad. Kamara, 40, initially retired from international football in 2022 but made a comeback four months ago, inspired by Cameroon legend Roger Milla. His experience and leadership are anticipated to be invaluable in the upcoming qualifiers.
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has officially announced a 25-man squad for the qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau and Egypt. This selection reflects a strategic balance between seasoned veterans and emerging talent, as Coach Kallon aims to build a formidable team capable of securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
With team spirit high and preparations in full swing, Leone Stars remain committed to giving their all in the crucial qualifiers ahead.
