Senior government officials, including the Mayor of Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, Minister of Works and Public Assets Denis Sandy, and Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, on Monday visited the scene of the collapsed building along Kissy Road in Freetown following the tragic incident triggered by heavy rainfall.
The delegation, accompanied by senior officers of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, inspected the affected area as emergency personnel continued rescue, safety, and assessment operations at the site.
Authorities said the collapse caused extensive destruction to nearby properties, with several surrounding houses reportedly sustaining partial structural damage.
Emergency responders and security personnel have remained deployed in the area to coordinate ongoing operations and ensure public safety.
Officials from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority are also working at the scene to remove fallen electric cables and disconnect power supply within affected zones to reduce the risk of electrocution and other hazards.
Residents living close to the collapsed structure have been advised to immediately vacate the area as hanging debris, loose concrete, and weakened sections of the four-storey building continue to pose serious danger.
While reports indicate that several people sustained injuries during the incident, authorities are yet to confirm the total number of casualties or the full extent of the damage.
Investigations are expected to determine the cause of the collapse amid growing public concern over building safety standards and the impact of heavy rainfall on structures across the capital.
Meanwhile, residents and community members continued to gather around the scene as emergency teams worked to secure the area and prevent further incidents.
