Former President Ernest Bai Koroma on Tuesday received a delegation from the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) at his Robureh residence in Makeni.
The delegation was led by the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Madam Hawa Sally Samai, accompanied by Mrs. Binta Mansaray, Registrar of the Residual Special Court for Sierra Leone; Mr. Foday Momoh Kanu, Regional Coordinator North, ICPNC; and Ms. Hawa Barrie, Deputy Director of Communications and Outreach, ICPNC.
During the courtesy visit, the delegation formally presented an invitation to His Excellency to participate in the National Unity and Social Cohesion Conference 2026, scheduled for 26 and 27 October at the Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown.
Former President Koroma commended the Commission for what he described as “a great initiative” and confirmed his participation.
Reflecting on the importance of national unity and reconciliation, His Excellency stated that, “Peacebuilding is a painstaking endeavour, but it is critical for national development because no nation can progress without peace.”
He further emphasized that, “Even more important is the reality that there can be no meaningful peace if the people are not united in the common agenda of nation building.”
The Conference will bring together current and former national leaders, institutions, civil society and regional and international partners to advance dialogue, strengthen national cohesion and translate commitments to peace into meaningful action.
Koroma is scheduled to depart Sierra Leone tomorrow, Wednesday, 21 October 2026, for Ethiopia, where he will participate in the high-level Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa, before returning to Sierra Leone for the National Unity and Social Cohesion Conference.
