The High Court of Sierra Leone has ordered Mohamed Pope Kamara, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), to appear before it on Monday to show cause why he should not be jailed for contempt of court.
In a ruling handed down on Friday, October 16, 2026, presiding judge Mr. Justice Adrian Fisher issued a subpoena compelling Mr. Kamara’s presence in court, warning that failure to appear would result in an immediate warrant for his arrest.
The legal action stems from an ongoing lawsuit filed by Alfred Peter Conteh and Hon. Mohamed Sheridan Kamara against senior party executives, the APC, and the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC).
On August 27, 2026, Justice Fisher issued a sweeping interim injunction restraining all APC executive members under the party’s 2022 Constitution from acting in their official capacities, convening executive meetings, or managing the day-to-day affairs of the party pending the resolution of the matter.
However, the High Court moved on its own motion on Friday after learning of public statements allegedly made by Mr. Kamara in defiance of that order.
Justice Fisher cited a recent video interview in which Mr. Kamara was seen and heard identifying himself as the APC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary.
The judge also referenced an article authored by Mr. Kamara titled “IGR’s APC potential flagbearer survey lacks credibility, transparency and Independence”.
The court noted that the article, which commented on an Institute for Governance Reform (IGR) report released on October 14, was published nearly six weeks after the August injunction went into effect.
Acting under Order 51 Rule 3 of the High Court Rules 2007, Justice Fisher directed Mr. Kamara to appear at Court Hall 1 at the Law Courts Building on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19.
“It should be made abundantly clear that should the said Mohamed Pope Kamara fail to appear in this court on Monday 19th October 2026, a warrant of arrest would be issued for his arrest,” Justice Fisher stated in the ruling. “It is therefore in his best interest to appear before this court rather than be brought before it”.
The judge further ordered that the subpoena be served on Mr. Kamara immediately by any appropriate means, including WhatsApp, and that copies be delivered to the APC Secretariat and the party’s National Legal Advisor.
Mr. Kamara has been advised to secure legal counsel of his choice or seek representation through the APC legal team for the scheduled inter partes hearing.
