Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has clarified comments about his monthly salary, saying he does not personally manage or have direct access to the bank account into which his earnings are paid.
Speaking on Radio Democracy 98.1 FM, Dr. Sengeh explained that the account was opened for him while he was studying at Harvard University and has been handled by another person since he was 19 years old. As a result, he said, he does not manage the account where his salary is deposited and therefore does not know the exact amount he receives each month.
The clarification comes after public discussion of his earlier remarks that he was unaware of his precise monthly pay.
Dr. Sengeh, who has served as Chief Minister since July 2023 after previously holding the education portfolio and the role of Chief Innovation Officer, used the radio appearance to provide context for the statement.
The remarks form part of ongoing public conversations about public officials’ remuneration in Sierra Leone.
No further official details on the exact salary figure or the identity of the account manager were provided in the interview.
