Freetown, 30th November 2024 — The National Public Health Authority (NPHA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) have launched an investigation into a suspected case of Viral Haemorrhagic Fever (VHF) in Kono.
In a statement released today, the NPHA confirmed that a Rapid Response Team (RRT) was dispatched early this morning to assess the situation following routine monitoring of a patient who recently passed away.
“Contacts of the deceased have been identified, and samples have been sent to the 34 Military Hospital Infectious Disease Laboratory for testing,” said Brig. Gen. Prof. Foday Sahr, Executive Director of the NPHA. “We are awaiting the test results, and we urge the public to remain calm as we conduct our investigation.”
Routine investigations like these are part of Sierra Leone’s robust public health surveillance system aimed at safeguarding communities.
“There is no immediate cause for concern at this time,” the statement reassured.
The NPHA emphasized that if a case of VHF is confirmed, it is fully equipped to respond swiftly and effectively.
“Our teams are prepared, and the necessary measures are in place to address any potential outbreak,” Prof. Sahr added.
