Violent clashes have been reported in Constituency 060, Kambia District, just days ahead of the rescheduled All People’s Congress (APC) lower-level elections slated for Wednesday, February 11, 2026, raising serious concerns about the party’s internal democratic process.
According to multiple reports, the disturbances occurred in Bamoi Luma and surrounding communities, leaving several APC members injured and resulting in the destruction and seizure of key election materials, including newly printed membership cards.
The most severe incident reportedly took place in Ward 201, where the Ward Chairman, Edward Sawyer, and his executive team were engaged in the distribution of APC membership cards.
Eyewitnesses told this medium that a group of unidentified men arrived at the distribution center in a motorcade and forcibly disrupted the exercise.
Chairman Sawyer was allegedly brutally assaulted, sustaining a serious injury to his eye as well as other internal injuries.
Witnesses further claimed that the distribution venue was vandalised during the attack, with election materials damaged or destroyed.
A similar incident was reported in Ward 200 (Rokupr), where a violent group allegedly stormed the area and seized all APC membership cards meant for the ward executive, effectively halting preparations for the upcoming elections.
In the aftermath, some party members have accused senior APC district officials and the Member of Parliament for Kambia District, Honourable Abdul Karim Kamara (Hon. AKK), of allegedly orchestrating the unrest.
Eyewitnesses claimed that a vehicle believed to belong to the MP was seen as part of the motorcade involved in the violence.
However, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara has strongly denied the allegations. Speaking in a telephone interview, the lawmaker stated that he was in Freetown at the time of the incidents, where he said he was engaged in high-level political meetings, including efforts to secure the release of the APC National Secretary General from police detention.
Hon. AKK further maintained that both of his official vehicles were in Freetown on the day the violence reportedly occurred, describing the accusations as “false and misleading.”
Reports also indicate that the alleged attacks occurred in the presence of senior APC district officials, including District Secretary General Alimamy Sawyer Bangura and District Organising Secretary Mohamed Holland, a development that has intensified calls for accountability within the party’s district leadership.
The matter has since been reported to the Sierra Leone Police and is currently under investigation at the Bamoi Luma Police Post, according to local sources.
The incidents have sparked growing concern among party supporters and observers, who fear that violence and intimidation could undermine the credibility of the APC’s lower-level elections.
Many are now calling on the party’s national leadership to intervene swiftly to restore calm, ensure accountability, and guarantee a peaceful, transparent, and fair electoral process in Kambia District.
