FREETOWN, Sierra Leone – In a significant display of bilateral cooperation, U.S. Ambassador Bryan Hunt extended his heartfelt congratulations to a group of 40 meticulously selected soldiers from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) today.
These soldiers successfully concluded their intensive training program in collaboration with the United States Army Security Force Assistance Brigade. This initiative underscores the United States’ unwavering commitment to fostering stronger ties with its military partners and enhancing a shared knowledge of best practices for sustainable operations.
Ambassador Hunt emphasized the profound bonds between the people of the United States and Sierra Leone, highlighting their joint dedication not only to maintaining international peace and security but also to advancing democratic values, safeguarding fundamental freedoms, and protecting human rights.
“It is my hope that professional exchanges at all levels of our society, including among members of our armed forces, can help to reinforce these shared values and ensure the sustained vibrancy of our respective democracies,” he said.
Ambassador Hunt assumed his role in Sierra Leone last week, succeeding David Reimer as the U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone.
In an official ceremony held on Monday, President Bio formally accepted Ambassador Hunt’s credentials, marking the commencement of his diplomatic mission in Sierra Leone.
During their inaugural meeting, Ambassador Hunt and President Bio engaged in extensive discussions with the aim of strengthening cooperation and collaboration between the United States and Sierra Leone.
President Bio lauded Ambassador Hunt’s illustrious career as a seasoned policymaker and applauded his deep understanding of African affairs, endorsing him as an exceptionally qualified choice to represent the United States as Ambassador to the Republic of Sierra Leone.
