A joint team of security personnel has arrested two men at the Mile 38 Checkpoint after suspected tramadol was discovered hidden inside a vehicle.
The operation, conducted on February 17, 2026, involved officers of the Sierra Leone Police and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, under the command of Superintendent Foday Sorie Fofanah.
Security sources said the vehicle was allegedly driven by Osman Kamara, who reportedly lives at IMATT in Freetown.
He was travelling with Idrissa Aruna, said to be from Lagor in Korrie Chiefdom, Moyamba District.
During a detailed search at the checkpoint, officers reportedly uncovered substances believed to be tramadol concealed in the bonnet of the vehicle.
Both men were arrested at the scene and the suspected drugs were seized as evidence. The suspects and exhibits have since been handed over to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit headquarters for further investigations.
Authorities have not yet revealed the exact quantity of the suspected drugs, noting that laboratory analysis and formal charges are still pending.
The latest arrest highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to clamp down on illegal drug trafficking through coordinated checkpoint operations and intelligence-driven enforcement. Investigations remain ongoing.
