The Government of Sierra Leone has formally charged Amadu Koita and 11 others, including former police and correctional officers, for their alleged involvement in the failed coup on November 26, 2023.
The charges encompass serious offenses such as treason, misprision of treason, harbouring, aiding, and abetting the enemy.
Earlier today, eleven accused individuals appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Magistrate Court No. 2 in Freetown. Notably, one of the accused, Bai Mahmoud Bangura, reported being unwell and is currently receiving medical attention at the Kingtom Police Hospital.
Consequently, the case has been adjourned to January 9, 2023. Legal representation was secured for all accused persons.
The Ministry, led by Chernor A Bah, Minister of Information and Civic Education, vows to provide regular updates on the ongoing investigations.
Additional charges against other individuals implicated in the coup attempt are anticipated in the days to come, as the Republic of Sierra Leone intensifies its efforts to ensure justice for the grave events of November 26, 2023.
