Freetown, 13 November 2025 – The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has ordered the closure of Urban Travel and Tours, a travel agency operating at 1 Back Street, Freetown, after discovering that the business had been selling air tickets without a valid license.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the SLCAA said the agency had been functioning in violation of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Act 2023. Citing Section 15 of the Act, the Authority reminded the public that it is mandated to oversee civil aviation operations nationwide, enforce relevant regulations, and fulfil Sierra Leone’s obligations under international aviation agreements.
The Act also empowers the SLCAA to certify and regulate air travel agencies.
The Authority confirmed that its enforcement team sealed the premises of Urban Travel and Tours earlier today.
SLCAA officials urged the public to avoid conducting any air ticketing transactions with the agency, warning that unlicensed operators pose significant risks to travellers.
“The SLCAA remains committed to safeguarding the interests of passengers and ensuring that all aviation service providers operate in strict compliance with national and international standards,” the statement added.
