Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia – A 52-year-old Sierra Leonean, identified as Abraham Kromah, has been arrested by Liberian security forces for allegedly attempting to smuggle a large quantity of marijuana across the border.
According to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Kromah was intercepted at the Bo Waterside crossing with 59 compressed plates of marijuana. The drugs were concealed in the trunk of his vehicle beneath a car engine placed where the spare tire is normally stored—a method authorities described as a sophisticated effort to avoid detection.
The marijuana is valued at about LRD 760,000 (roughly USD 4,000). Kromah is currently being questioned by LDEA investigators and is expected to face prosecution under Liberian law.
“This arrest is another major breakthrough in our fight against illicit drugs,” said G. Olando Demey, LDEA’s Chief of Public Relations. “No amount of concealment or cross-border trickery will shield traffickers from our enforcement teams.”
The LDEA has called on the public to remain vigilant and support security efforts to curb drug trafficking. T
he arrest comes just a day after Liberian authorities seized 480 cartons of Tramadol in nearby Tieni, highlighting an intensified crackdown on narcotics along the Sierra Leone–Liberia border.
