Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Energy I, Ing. Edmond Nonie, has concluded a high-level two-day engagement in Dakar aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between Sierra Leone and Senegal in the energy and mining sectors.
The meeting, co-chaired with Senegal’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum, Sullay Diop, ran from November 30 to December 1, 2025.
The talks marked another major step in the growing partnership between the two West African nations, building on commitments made during recent state visits to Sierra Leone by Senegalese President Bashiru Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Osmane Sonko.
During those visits, both countries signed a series of strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering energy, mining, petroleum and gas, agriculture, trade, fisheries, and infrastructure.
The Dakar meeting focused on reviewing and amending proposals to ensure the final cooperation treaty aligns with the national laws and regulatory frameworks of both countries.
On December 2, the Sierra Leonean delegation paid a courtesy call on Senegal’s Prime Minister to present the outcomes of the deliberations. A joint committee has now been tasked with finalizing the treaty and preparing for the official signing ceremony.
Once completed, the treaty will be signed jointly by President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone and President Bashiru Diomaye Faye of Senegal, further cementing a partnership expected to boost energy reforms and support Sierra Leone’s Feed Salone agenda.
Officials say the strengthened collaboration signals a new chapter of shared development, with both nations targeting deeper cooperation in sustainable energy and resource management.
