In a significant enhancement of the nation’s firefighting capabilities, the Government of Sierra Leone commissioned five new multi-purpose fire engines on Friday, May 31, 2024.
The formal commissioning ceremony was presided over by the Resident Minister for the Western Area and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The event, held at the National Fire Force Training School in Sima Town, Rokel, also featured the graduation of 85 newly trained firefighters. These recruits successfully completed an intensive training program, equipping them with the skills needed to bolster the country’s fire and emergency response teams.
The new fire engines and the additional manpower represent a substantial boost to the National Fire Force’s operational capacity.
The advanced fire engines are expected to enhance the Force’s ability to respond to a variety of emergencies, while the influx of newly trained firefighters will strengthen the overall effectiveness of fire and rescue operations across Sierra Leone.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to improving public safety and emergency response infrastructure, aiming to better protect communities and reduce the impact of fire-related incidents throughout the country.
