Freetown, 2 September 2025 – The Government of Sierra Leone has officially declared Thursday, 4th September 2025, as a public holiday in observance of the Islamic Feast of Moulid-Un-Nabi.
A statement from State House in Freetown confirmed the decision, noting that the holiday will be observed nationwide.
The occasion marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is celebrated by Muslims around the world with prayers, reflections, and community gatherings.
Government officials encouraged citizens to use the day for peaceful celebrations and spiritual reflection, underscoring the importance of religious tolerance and national unity.
The declaration reaffirms Sierra Leone’s tradition of recognizing and respecting major religious events, with both Christian and Muslim holidays observed as part of the national calendar.
Thursday’s holiday will see public offices, schools, and many businesses closed across the country. Normal activities are expected to resume on Friday, 5th September 2025.
