The hearing of the case between the Inspector-General of Police and Abdul Kpakka, accused of the murder of former Freetown City Council Communications Executive Sia Fatu Kamara, was adjourned today in Freetown’s magistrate court
The prosecution, led by Yussif Isaac Sesay, requested an adjournment until September 9th, citing the absence of key witnesses.
They assured the court that the witnesses would be available at the next hearing. The request was met with strong objections from the defence team, which includes M.F. Bangura, A. Sesay, and A. Fullah.
Defence counsel argued that the repeated delays were unjust and infringed on Kpakka’s right to liberty.
“The continuous postponement of these proceedings not only violates my client’s fundamental rights but also undermines public confidence in the judicial process,” the defence stated.
Despite the defence’s objections, the magistrate agreed to the adjournment but emphasized the need for the prosecution to ensure the presence of all witnesses on the next date to prevent further delays.
The magistrate stressed the importance of moving the case forward without further postponements.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to the serious nature of the charges and the broader discussions it has sparked about domestic violence in Sierra Leone following Kamara’s tragic death.
