Kabala, May 19, 2025 – Authorities have activated the Military Aid to Civil Power (MAC-P) protocol in Koinadugu District following deadly ethnic clashes between members of the Limba and Koranko communities in Lengekoror village.
The violent confrontation, which broke out on Saturday, May 17, is believed to have been triggered by a land dispute and has resulted in several deaths and numerous injuries. Eyewitnesses report widespread panic in the area before calm was restored early Sunday morning.
Security forces confirmed that stability returned by 7:00 AM on May 18, following reinforced deployments by both the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF). Troops from the RSLAF’s 12th Infantry Battalion were dispatched to support police efforts in quelling the violence and preventing further unrest.
In response to the crisis, the MAC-P protocol, an emergency framework enabling military assistance to civil authorities, has been enacted across Lengekoror and neighboring communities until further notice.
Sub-Inspector Momoh Sesay of the Operational Support Division (OSD) is currently leading security operations on the ground, coordinating patrols and overseeing efforts to monitor and stabilize the area.
Officials are calling on residents to remain peaceful and cooperate fully with ongoing investigations and peacebuilding initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of the conflict.
