Freetown, April 30, 2025 — The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police has issued a formal invitation to Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, the former flag bearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), to appear for questioning in relation to video recordings allegedly depicting him as the “President-elect” of Sierra Leone.
According to a letter dated April 30, 2025, from the Investigations Department Headquarters, the CID’s Cyber Crime Unit has reviewed a “series of audios and videos on various locations bordering on electoral justice.”
Among the footage, Dr. Kamara is reportedly seen referring to himself as the President-elect and suggesting he is poised to assume office.
“In one of these videos, you were seen referred to as the President-elect of Sierra Leone awaiting to assume the reins of power,” the letter states. “You were also seen making statements in these videos endorsing yourself as the President-elect of Sierra Leone.”
The police have summoned Dr. Kamara to appear before the Cyber Investigations Unit at the CID Headquarters on Pademba Road, Freetown, on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., to “clarify these issues.”
This development comes amid heightened political tensions and public scrutiny over the electoral process and post-election narratives.
Neither Dr. Kamara nor the APC has issued an official response at the time of publication.
Dr. Kamara has been a prominent figure in Sierra Leonean politics, having contested the 2023 presidential elections as the APC’s flag bearer. The APC has previously raised concerns about the conduct of the elections and the electoral commission, alleging ballot stuffing and voter suppression in some parts of the country.
