In a tweet, Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio extends heartfelt wishes on Pan-African Women’s Day to all women in Sierra Leone and Africa.
The president celebrates the significant contributions and unwavering spirit of women across the continent, highlighting their role in shaping the nation’s and the continent’s history.
President Bio emphasizes the strength, resourcefulness, and resilience of the women of Sierra Leone and acknowledges their pivotal role in driving the country forward.
“We commemorate the strength, resourcefulness, resilience and achievements of our mothers, sisters and daughters who have played pivotal roles in shaping the course of our nation’s and Continent’s history,” he stated, adding that “In Sierra Leone, we are constantly reminded of the essential role that women play in driving our nation forward.”
President noted that in line with this recognition, the government has passed the landmark Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act, guaranteeing a minimum of 30% representation for women in elective, appointive, and other leadership positions across the country.
The president proudly shares that the government has taken action to match its commitment by ensuring a record representation of women in Parliament and his Cabinet. Recognizing that empowering women is essential for true progress and sustainable socioeconomic development, President Bio highlights women as equal partners in Sierra Leone’s development.
On this special day, President Bio hopes that Pan-African Women’s Day will inspire a more inclusive, prosperous, and equitable Sierra Leone, underscoring the importance of women’s empowerment in building a brighter future for the nation.
