In a momentous gathering of African leaders, Sierra Leone’s President, His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Liberia’s newly elected President, Joseph Nyumah Boakai Snr., during the official swearing-in ceremony held today.
President Bio conveyed the warm regards of the Government and the people of Sierra Leone, emphasizing the shared history and genuine friendship between the two nations.
He expressed optimism about the continued collaboration under President Boakai’s leadership, foreseeing strides in stability, economic development, and social harmony in the Mano River Union region.
“On the strength of our shared history, I am confident that under your leadership, we shall continue to make significant strides in fostering stability, economic development, and social harmony in the Mano River Union region,” President Bio stated.
Highlighting the commitment to addressing common development challenges, promoting peace, and contributing to the socio-economic advancement of both countries and the broader West African region, President Bio underscored his anticipation of a collaborative effort.
“I look forward to working collaboratively with you to address common development challenges, promote peace and contribute to the overall socio-economic advancement of our two countries, West Africa and the Continent at large,” President Bio affirmed in a social media post.
The inauguration of Joseph Boakai as the 26th President of Liberia comes after his victory in the November 2023 runoff election, where he triumphed over former President George Weah.
At 79 years old, President Boakai faces the formidable task of addressing poverty and corruption, having secured victory with 50.64 percent of the votes in the runoff poll.
