Freetown, Sierra Leone – Police Constable Augustine Tamba Saffa and his partner, Isha Conteh, have been committed to the High Court for trial on charges of unlawful possession and dealing in prohibited drugs.
The duo appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Monday, where they faced two counts — possession of a prohibited drug and dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority.
According to the charge sheet, Officer Saffa was allegedly caught with 799 wraps of cannabis sativa on September 1, 2025, at Yakama Street, New Site, Kenema, in the Eastern Province. His co-accused, Isha Conteh, was said to have been found with three parcels of the same substance at the same location and date.
In his ruling, Magistrate Jah said the prosecution had presented enough evidence to establish a prima facie case, justifying their committal to the High Court.
He noted that the witness testimonies were consistent and that the cannabis exhibits had been properly tendered in court.
Both accused individuals indicated their decision to tell their side of the story during the High Court trial and expressed their intention to call witnesses in their defense.
They were remanded at the respective Male and Female Correctional Centres pending their next court appearance.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by the judiciary to clamp down on drug-related offences and reinforce accountability within the security sector.
