In a remarkable development, the impoverished Kroo Bay Community is set to receive a brand new primary school, thanks to the generous support of the Swiss-based charitable foundation, Sustain For Life.
The project, initiated through the efforts of former Councillor Murray Conteh, has garnered widespread approval.
The ambitious construction plan includes a primary school with 12 spacious classrooms, a staff room, a cutting-edge computer lab, a library, and a community hall. This significant initiative is aimed at addressing the educational needs of hundreds of underprivileged children in the area.
Freetown City Council has granted approval for the demolition of the existing community center, making way for the construction of this modern educational facility. The completed school is scheduled to be handed over to Freetown City Council and the Kroo Bay Community by next June.
During this morning’s visit to the construction site, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE discussed potential future upgrades for Kroo Bay with Massimo Gini, the Founder of Sustain for Life, and Thierry Younga, the Africa Manager.
According to Mayor Aki-Sawyerr, these enhancements could encompass improvements to the Community Health Centre, the construction of a community access road, and the reconstruction of better housing following a recent fire disaster in the vicinity.
Adjacent to the primary school, construction is already underway on four toilets and shower cubicles, further enhancing the community’s facilities.
Acknowledging the importance of community involvement in project success, the site visit included Chief Kabempa, Councillor Abdulai Kabba, and other community stakeholders. Also present were Gibril Jalloh from the Sierra Leone Autistic Society, Deputy Mayor Kweku Lisk, and Councillor Umaru Bangura.
This remarkable collaboration with Sustain For Life is expected to have a profound impact and undoubtedly #TransformLives in Kroo Bay Community.
