The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has unveiled revised charges for its multi-purpose biometric identity cards, attributing the adjustments to rising global production costs and currency fluctuations.
In a public notice issued this week, the Authority stated that the new fees will take effect on 23 February 2026.
Under the revised structure, the cost of a national ID card will increase from SLL 145 to SLL 165. Fees for non-national ID cards will also rise from SLL 2,005 to SLL 2,305.
The review is in line with Articles 14.1 and 14.2 of the agreement between the Government of Sierra Leone and Constrat Systems SL Ltd, which was ratified by Parliament in March 2022.
Director General Mohamed M. Massaquio explained that the upward adjustment is necessary to maintain the efficient production and steady availability of the biometric cards.
The updated rates will also affect citizens within the ECOWAS sub-region. ECOWAS nationals will now pay SLL 280, up from SLL 245, while ECOWAS non-nationals will see their fees increase from SLL 405 to SLL 465.
The Authority maintained that the changes are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted access to secure and reliable identification services across the country despite mounting global financial pressures.
