Freetown — Former Sierra Leone national team head coach Mohamed Kallon has broken his silence following his abrupt dismissal by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), accusing the governing body of attempting to exert excessive control over him during his tenure.
In a Facebook post, the Leone Stars legend described his first public reaction since the termination, stating that the association wanted to “hold the remote control” while giving him the television. He promised to go live on Facebook on Monday to fully explain his side of the story.
The SLFA announced the immediate termination of Kallon’s appointment as head coach of the national men’s team on April 2, 2026.
In a brief press statement, the federation said the decision was reached after “due deliberation” and a review of the team’s technical, administrative, and strategic needs. The Executive Committee concluded that a change in leadership was necessary “in the best interests of the Association and Sierra Leonean football.”
The SLFA thanked Kallon for his service and wished him well in future endeavours.
Director of the National Sports Authority, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, told Truth Media that one of the issues highlighted in the sack letter was Kallon’s alleged refusal to speak to the media.
Reports have also pointed to Kallon’s reported absence from pre- and post-match press conferences, including during the team’s fixture in Azerbaijan, which reportedly attracted scrutiny from FIFA.
Kallon’s Facebook post, which included the phrase “A lie has speed, but truth has endurance,” has sparked intense debate among Sierra Leonean football fans and stakeholders. Many are now eagerly awaiting his promised live session for more details on the tensions that led to his exit.
The sacking has divided opinions, with some questioning the transparency of the process and others citing administrative or compliance issues as the main factors. Additional claims circulating on social media, including allegations around coaching licenses, have added to the controversy, though these remain unconfirmed by official sources.
Kallon, a revered figure in Sierra Leone football for his playing career, was appointed head coach amid high expectations. His departure has sent shockwaves through the local sports community, raising questions about the future direction of the Leone Stars.
The SLFA has so far maintained a minimal public response beyond its initial statement.
Further updates are expected once Kallon addresses the public live on Monday.
