Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Conrad Sackey, has on 8 February 2025 provided an update on the ongoing WASSCE BRS registration process, revealing significant progress in several districts while others lag behind.
According to the latest figures, Tonkolili and Pujehun districts have achieved full registration, with all 51 and 12 schools, respectively, successfully completing the process. Other districts are nearing full completion, including Bo (52 out of 57 schools), Bombali (47 out of 51), and Kenema (70 out of 74).
In Kambia, 97% of schools (37 out of 38) have registered, while Kono follows closely with 95% completion (37 out of 39 schools). Kailahun (20 out of 25), Karene (11 out of 14), and Koinadugu/Falaba (14 out of 19) are also making steady progress.
However, the Western Area remains the biggest concern, with only 232 out of 405 schools completing registration—just 57% of the total. This leaves over 170 schools yet to finalize their registration, raising concerns as the deadline approaches.
Minister Sackey has urged school administrators, teachers, and stakeholders to accelerate the registration process to ensure all pupils are eligible for the WASSCE exams.
He emphasized the importance of timely registration, warning that delays could prevent students from sitting for their exams.
With time running out, authorities are calling on communities to spread awareness and assist struggling schools to complete their registration before it’s too late.
