The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has announced a steady increase in pupil registration for the 2024 and 2025 national examinations, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve access to education across Sierra Leone.
In a statement released by the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, the ministry disclosed that 171,099 pupils have been registered for the 2025 National Primary School Examination (NPSE), with 82,573 males and 88,526 females from 5,141 schools.
For the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), a total of 129,838 pupils have been registered, comprising 62,788 males and 67,050 females from 1,984 schools.
The statement also compared this year’s entries with those of 2024, which recorded 164,383 NPSE candidates from 4,954 schools, and 125,877 BECE candidates from 1,830 schools.
“This consistent increase in pupil participation in national examinations is a testament to our government’s commitment to improving access to quality education,” Minister Sackey said.
The ministry confirmed that the registration process for both the 2025 NPSE and BECE officially closed on February 27, 2025.
“The rise in female candidates is particularly encouraging as we continue to promote gender equality in education,” the minister added.
The MBSSE reaffirmed its dedication to fostering inclusive education and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate in national examinations.
