Bo/Kenema, Tuesday April 22, 2025 — Deputy Minister of Energy II, Dr. Rahim Jalloh, has conducted an on-site inspection of the Bo-Kenema Network Rehabilitation and Expansion Project, expressing satisfaction with the progress made so far.
The project aims to significantly upgrade the electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure across Bo and Kenema, while also extending reliable power access to 12 underserved communities located between the two cities. In addition, it targets the integration of previously unserved areas within Bo and Kenema into the national grid.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Jalloh praised the pace and quality of work by the contractors and hinted at a forthcoming visit by President Julius Maada Bio to officially commission the project.
“With what I’ve witnessed today, I am confident the project will reach completion in a matter of months,” he said.
He noted that a detailed report of the inspection will be submitted to the Minister of Energy, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella.
“There are just a few finishing touches required before the official commissioning. This project is of strategic national importance,” Dr. Jalloh emphasized.
Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), the project is expected to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity supply in the southern and eastern regions, enabling residents to better benefit from the regional CLSG (Côte d’Ivoire–Liberia–Sierra Leone–Guinea) power supply.
In a related development, Dr. Jalloh also visited the Bo Power Station where he held technical discussions with engineers regarding recent electricity supply disruptions caused by thunderstorms and network tripping.
He stressed the critical role of the energy sector in the government’s Feed Salone agenda, noting that ongoing reforms will continue to strengthen the link between energy reliability and national development.
