Freetown, Sierra Leone – Sierra Leone’s Special Envoy for Entertainment and renowned hip-hop artist Kao Denero has publicly dismissed reports of a bench warrant issued for his arrest, calling the claims baseless and driven by malice.
In a strongly worded post shared via social media, the rapper—born Amara Denis Turay—denied the existence of any warrant, while criticizing what he described as a targeted smear campaign against him.
“It’s really a lot of work to be checking at the hospital to see if someone is really sick, download their pictures to go prove a point or gain legal grounds, share fake info to desperate and thirsty hate-filled bloggers to share just to impress the public,” he wrote.
“There is no bench warrant for the ambassador. This is nothing but the fact. Thank you.”
His statement follows reports from Monday that a bench warrant had been issued for his immediate arrest after he failed to appear in court to face charges of incitement and aggravated assault. The charges stem from an incident involving fellow musician Famous and his team.
Kao Denero had earlier informed the court that he was receiving medical treatment for high blood pressure at the 34 Military Hospital and later traveled to the United States for further care. However, the court rejected the medical documents submitted in his defense, deeming them inadmissible and possibly fraudulent.
Citing what it considered a deliberate attempt to avoid prosecution, the judiciary proceeded to issue the warrant.
The case has since been adjourned, pending Kao Denero’s return and court appearance.
Despite the legal developments, the artist maintains his innocence and continues to question the motives behind the legal action and public discourse surrounding the case.
