Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, visited the offices of world-renowned architectural firm Foster + Partners in London to discuss the transformative Sherbro Island City Project.
The visit, accompanied by Siaka Stevens, co-founder of Sherbro Alliance Partners (SAP), marked a key step in the planning and visioning process for this ambitious urban development.
The Sherbro Island City Project aims to turn Sherbro Island into a modern, sustainable metropolis, combining cutting-edge infrastructure with environmentally friendly design.
During the visit, Foster + Partners showcased their innovative architectural approach, which is set to shape the future of the island.
Minister Bah expressed his admiration for the project, noting its potential to change the face of Sierra Leone.
“The Sherbro Project will not only improve the infrastructure of the region but serve as a symbol of Sierra Leone’s future,” Bah said. “It’s inspiring to witness the dedication and expertise being brought to this project by SAP’s international partners.”
The meeting included a presentation on the first phase of the development, focused on revitalizing Bonthe Town, a key entry point to the rest of the island.
Stevens emphasized the significance of this phase: “Bonthe Town, with its historical importance and potential for revitalization, is an ideal starting point for this project. This is something all Sierra Leoneans can be proud of.”
The Sherbro Island City Project represents a monumental step forward for Sierra Leone, combining modern urban planning with sustainability and local community involvement. The partnership between SAP and the Sierra Leonean government highlights President Bio’s commitment to international collaboration for national development.
As work progresses, the project is expected to attract global attention, positioning Sierra Leone as a leader in sustainable urban development in Africa.
