The Fullah Progressive Union (FPU) of Sierra Leone has strongly condemned the recent wave of arbitrary arrests and harassment targeting Sierra Leonean Fullahs.
These incidents, which have reportedly increased in the aftermath of the deportation of Sierra Leoneans from Guinea, have caused alarm within the Fullah community and led to urgent demands for justice.
In an official statement, the FPU denounced the actions as “unjust” and “deeply troubling.” The union called on the government to immediately release those wrongfully detained and hold those responsible accountable.
“Such actions undermine the principles of justice and equality,” the FPU stated. “We urge the authorities to act swiftly to address these concerns and uphold the rights of every citizen.”
The union highlighted the importance of treating all tribes, including Fullahs, with dignity and respect, emphasizing their integral role in Sierra Leone’s social fabric. It also appealed to citizens to refrain from spreading unverified information that could incite division or violence, stressing the need for unity and mutual respect.
Meanwhile, the governments of Sierra Leone and Guinea are working collaboratively to address the situation and ensure the safety and well-being of all affected individuals. The FPU expressed support for these efforts and called for transparency and justice throughout the process.
“We must stand together as one nation,” the statement concluded, “embracing our diversity and fostering peace and harmony.”
